People Came from Earth • 1999 • SF short story by Stephen Baxter

Synopsis: No one can live on Earth anymore, humanity was saved from extinction by settling over generations on the Moon. Humans don’t fit in the low gravity, they change. They slowly loose their technology, turning to savages, nearly don’t remember their past anymore and have to be told that “people came from Earth”.

Review: Lunar live has to be underground due to the missing magnetosphere protecting us from solar and cosmic radiation. But in this story, people live on a terraformed Moon which I don’t buy in without any explanation. The simple story itself was narrated beautifully, though depressing, in a Bradburian style.
