Someday • 2014 • SF short story by James Patrick Kelly

★★★

Meta: isfdb. This SF short story appeared May 2014 in Asimov’s. It was re-published in The Best SF&F of the Year 2015.

Synopsis: Daya is a young woman living in a colony on some planet which has just been re-discovered by far-advanced humans. She wants to become pregnant which by tradition is a mixture of the semen of three different males.

Review:  The glimpse at Daya’s character, her rich culture and her relation to the three men is convincing. After the intriguing ending, I’d like to read more of her, but the story ends a bit abruptly. I find the story to be lacking any plot tension.
