Dinner in Audoghast • 1985 • Historical short story by Bruce Sterling

★★★

Synopsis:  Audoghast is a lost historical city in Islamic Mauretania. The story recalls a dinner at a rich merchant’s home in 1100 A.D. As one of the attractions, they invite a fortuneteller who predicts the city’s downfall.

Review: The story’s prose is very lively and draws the reader to the smells and wonders of the dinner’s atmosphere. It holds my attention and brings near the foreign Islamic culture.

Meta: isfdb. Lightspeed Magazine published a free version online.
