Stunning. This is good in so many different ways:
A fantasy that could be science fantasy but one never knows.
A coming-of-age story that doesn’t pull tropes.
A second person point of view: a literary figure meant as a puzzle.
A setting that does leave lots of room which I love to discover in the next two parts of the trilogy.
A story that has heart breaking moments without falling into romanticism.
A central theme of slaves and refugees that has a contemporary relevance.
The negative side? The Obelisk Gate is available only in half a year.
