She Waits for All Men Born • 1976 • SF short story by James Tiptree, Jr.

In a post-apocalyptic setting, some humans have the capability to kill with their minds, which is a genetic mutation usually accompanied with blindness. Euthanasia is practiced on the blinds so that the other defect isn’t recognized. But then, a half-blind is born with that capability. The girl wields her power.

Stunning language but boring, lengthy introduction ranging from dinosaur mutations via Indian fights, 3rd reich to post-apocalypsis. It isn’t clear for a long time, what this story is up for.

Meta: ISFDB. First published November 1976 in Future Power. I read it in the collection Her Smoke Rose Up Forever.
