Persona • 2014 • near SF shortstory by Joel Garreau

★★

Meta: ISFDB. This Near SF short story appeared in the 2014 anthology Twelve Tomorrows, my review here.

ISFDB tells me that Joel Garreau didn’t write stories in our genre, so this is his first one.

Changing the university system from old-school MIT to a new form and the reception of it in university politics is homeground for Prof. Garreau. Spreading out body clones to do tasks for you – e.g. giving presentations – and synchronizing later on is the more interesting concept of this story.

The background of an old, bitter professor and a young, sexy shooting star mixed with musings about cultural differences of Asia and European systems could be interesting. But it isn’t.

Bad tension arc, uninteresting story and characters don’t make this a memorable, enjoyable read. But it was ok.
